Smokin' Greens

Ingredients
  

  • 3 lbs collard greens
  • 1 medium jalapeno remove seeds and chop
  • 1 small onion
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 4-5 cup veggie broth
  • 1 1/2 tsp smoked salt or liquid smoke
  • 1 dash baking soda
  • 1 tsp red chili flakes
  • seasoning salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Line a large pot with veggie broth.
  • Saute onions, garlic, and jalapeno on medium heat until fragrant and tender.
  • Add in vegetable broth, red chili flakes, smoked salt, and black pepper. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  • Add your greens. Stir to make sure all the greens get coated. Add a dash of baking soda to help tenderize the greens.
  • Reduce heat and bring to a simmer.
  • Simmer for 1 to 2 hours, depending on how tender you like your greens.
  • Serve!

Notes

Tip - Use a shorter cooking time, if you like brighter crunchier greens.
Plan Ahead - Chop veggies and remove greens from stem the day before
